Aside from that – as if that’s not enough – the fact that this textile screams eco-freindly quality sits so well with my more intentional clothing choices.
We’ve certainly come into an age where the concept of slow-fashion and sustainability are really taking off, making on-going fabric innovation inevitable.
In my own journey, I’ve become actively curious about my clothing selection and the impact these choices are having on those who make my clothing, how far these pieces travel and the original of their cloth.
When it comes to Tencel, what’s not to like about this easy-comfort, eco and animal-freindly material.
Yet it’s in the understanding the ‘how and why’ that brings great appreciation for this regenerative textile.
A solo adventurer. Shot four times. Left for dead deep in the Amazon. High adrenaline, a true account. The book, ‘Choosing to Live’, by Davey du Plessis, adventurer and now author.
I won’t tell you much more of Davey’s Amazon experience, as you’ll have the book to drive into. What I will share with you is that Davey is a fellow South African, and fuels himself on 100% plant-based foods. Here’s an insightful Q&A interview, between he and I;
We certainly don’t need the approach of February, the month of Cupid’s arrow, to be our excuse to finding ways to ‘juice-up’ an intimate relationship. Anytime will do, preferably starting today, to try this clean and healthy method for increasing you and your partner’s appetite for love.
You already know that juice has a ton of health benefits—it can help you detox, strengthen your immune system, treat stomach issues, and strengthen your bones. But did you know it can also enhance your sex life in a major way?
Nutrition specialist Drew Canole is all about juicing for its between-the-sheets benefits. So much so that he’s created two recipes—one for women and one for men—made up of a unique blend of vitamins and hormones that’ll keep things steamy from start to finish. Start by stocking your fridge with these super veggies:
Carrots: These little orange buddies are high in vitamin A, which stimulates the epithelial tissue throughout the entire body—and yeah, we mean everywhere. Cough cough.
Celery Stalks: They’re not just great with buffalo wings; they also contain androsterone, a hormone that stimulates the sex drive.
Cucumber: Extra hydration gives a boost in stamina and endurance—and no one’s ever complained about having too much stamina and endurance.
Kale Leaves: Tasty and high in zinc, often called “the ultimate sex mineral” for its libido-boosting superpowers.
Knuckle of Ginger: You know what they say…a knuckle of ginger a day reduces free radicals in your blood, improving blood flow to all your happy places. Oh, is that not how the saying goes?
Garlic Clove: It may not do much for your breath, but garlic increases nitric oxide production, which is primarily responsible for health erections. Sooo, extra garlic for dinner it is!
Lemon: Too much acidity in the body can lead to health issues, but lemon balances that out, alkalizing the body for higher performance. Bow-chicka-wow-wow…
Knuckle of Turmeric: This superfood contains compounds that decrease inflammation and maximize blood flow, increasing sexual desire and performance.
Got it? Get blending. You can drink these mixes straight, or stir them up with protein powder and ice for a filling breakfast. Just try not to be late for work because you’re too busy getting busy thanks to these recipes:
2 Celery Stalks
3 Kale Leaves
1 Knuckle of Ginger
3 Stalks of Celery
1 Garlic Clove
1 Knuckle of Turmeric
I had one of my ‘wow” meals all planned. A summertime lunch served alongside the pool, with five hungry kids, and as many adults, feasting on my favourite veggie burgers. Only with so many wonderful salads, dips and hot dish recipes to try, share and repeat, the burger meal somehow took a back seat.
With a fair amount of planning, and a little luck, Christmas can bring families together. This festive season my family’s joyfully reunited for the first time in nine years.
In this near-decade that has passed, we’ve delighted in the birth of two little ones, felt the sorrow of loosing our patriarch, and warmly welcomed a new life partner into our herd. Life changes, life gets stronger, and living is readily available to us to make the most of.
There’s no expression truer of life’s vitality and love than that found in veganism. Three meals a day, I consciously decide to celebrate life, by not including death and suffering on my plate. I see this as my greatest gift received in 2012, the gift of seeing the invisible, and then choosing to follow life’s gift.
My compassion goes to those who don’t have the gift of being able to choose the simple act of living, our fellow animals. My gratitude goes to those who have opened my eyes and to those who offer their support, I thank you.
Here’s wishing you all a happy, healthy and compassionate festive season.
The past two weeks or so have been victorious, or at the very least, fun and uniting for Qatar-based vegan and aspirants!
Through my recently formed Qatar vegan community Facebook page, I’ve met Rebecca of Vegan Rawrr who makes the most delicious nut butters (my favourite being the almond butter), has a good supply of Nutritional Yeast Flakes (an important vegan kitchen must-have) and a natural Nutella-type spread (eventually, something nutritious that keeps my sweet tooth well satisfied).
